what the fuck is wrong with npr???

is it just me or is npr getting more and more right-wing? i know it's not that i'm getting more left wing - there is definitely something changing on npr. seems like all the guests now are from the heritage foundation, the hudson institute, etc. they are so fucking scared of being considered 'liberal' that they've completely swung the other way. now i'm just waiting for the 'the pat robertson hour' on npr or maybe rush is going to switch. pathetic!

their news hasn't been anything but an 'official mouth-piece' for the u.s. government for a long time, but now all the other shows are also turning into crap. on one of their science shows last week they had to give the disclaimer that scientists widely disagree about whether global warning is real or not. what the fuck? maybe next, they'll put a disclaimer on any story that references evolution, that maybe darwin was wrong and the christian god really created the universe.

there are still some decent shows on npr stations that didn't completely sell out yet, but of course in minnesota and wisconsin, they won't air those. too much controversy; and controversy is one of the lutheran/scandinavian/germanic northerner's greatest fears. hey, i mean who has time for intelligent discourse when there is so much gardening that has to be talked about. after all, our growing season is almost 5 weeks long up here!

i have to make one exception though and that is a local show here on our superior npr station, called the duke skorich show, which really is great. a while ago i wrote to both mpr and wpr and asked them to carry 'democracy now' (maybe the best news program out there, i.m.h.o.). while mpr just said they're trying to focus on locallly produced shows, wpr sent me this nasty letter back, saying they would never air that show, that it's too liberal and that they're trying to never be on any side of the issue, etc. give me a fucking break!

even their ads say how they always try to show both sides of the issue and invite their guest accordingly, etc. always both sides? do these numbnuts really think that every issue always has only two sides? they must live in a two dimensional world. talk about narrow-minded... but so many people seem to think that way. maybe most annoying are the people who think they are so independent and enlightened because they always assume that the truth must lie somewhere between what the republicans say and what the democrats say. i got news for you: our political system consists of 1 very right-wing party (democrats) and 1 ultra right-wing party (republicans). you might not be too successful looking for the truth between those two.

that reminds me of a great saying that's printed on the coffee cups of the chester creek cafe: "democracy must be something more than two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner" (maybe slightly mis-quoted). but it seems like the pursuit of objective truth is not on top of the list for most media outlets.

there's my sermon for the day! and now for the fun part:

FUCK YOU!

the 'reverent' jerry farwell. stupid, fat, bigot extraordinaire. said that the attacks on 9/11 were caused by "gays, lesbians, atheists, the ACLU, planned parenthood, americans for the separation of church and state and all non-christians". i'm a pretty pacifistic guy, but i'd really enjoy a half hour alone in a room with this asshole...

FUCK YEAH!

dan barker. president of the freedom from religion foundation. probably one of the smartest bunches of people i know. i'm always amazed by their 'freethought today' paper. doesn't care much for jerry farwell.
