no-line meeting in superior

saw government in action yesterday. i was at the superior county board meeting considering whether to negotiate with atc about the transmission line.
you don't need to really know anything about the issue, but here is the super-condensed version: evil power-corporation wants to build huge power-transmission line (with humongous towers) all the way through wisconsin. cutting a path of destruction through pristing forest, streams, etc. private folks who don't want to sell their land get it taken away from them by 'imminent domain'. all counties sell out to the power company, EXCEPT for douglass county. they said no. the line needs to cross public land and they won't allow it.
so what do the fucking state legislators do?? the pass a law (the montgommery bill) that allows a private company to SEIZE public land. what the fuck????? the level of corruptness has gone off the scale to the down-right absurd. and the kicker is, they can do it EVEN if the municipality wants to sell it.
so we went with protest signs. a lot of other people were there. every single one who spoke was completely against this process and appalled. one guy from the chamber of commerce came up to say he supported the thing because that's what his lobbyists had told him. i spoke last and said something like "there are obviously two very distinct sides here. the people of douglass county, who are 100% against this deal and ATC and the corporations on the other side. last time i checked, you guys were elected to represent the people."
got huge applause, and i thought after every single speaker from the public (discarding the clown from the chamber of commerce) was completely opposed, their representatives would vote in the people's interest...
and then the cocksuckers voted 14 - 10 against the people. it was a sad moment indeed. although i did enjoy speaking there.
oh well, the battle isn't over yet. NEXT
