i'm back

i'm back. ugly storm down on the gulf-coast. glad i don't live in hurricane country anymore. they still are my favorite kind of natural disaster though - at least you can run from them, unile tornados or earthquakes.

kind of tired so not much today. my 1983 mercedes 240d finally shipped today. really excited about getting it. i'm gonna run it on bio-diesel - a bio-diesel coop opened here just in time. with our other car being a PZEV (partial zero emissions vehicle) we're drivin pretty clean now. bio diesel up here is around $2.75 right now. i predict that by the end of the week that'll be cheaper than petrol-diesel! woot.

sometimes i feel like i'm the only one who actually likes the high gas prices. i really wished it would hit 5 or 6 bucks a gallon. maybe then people would stop driving those fucking stupid suv's and trucks. the wallet is one of the few places you can reach the dumb masses, so all power to it. (oh, and please don't tell me you need that suburban because you have 3 kids. i won't even get into that shit...)

anyway, it's been too long so here it is:

FUCK YOU!

pat robertson. if you need to know why, then you live on a different planet...

FUCK YEAH!

vin diesel. why? cause i like him and he'll kick your sorry ass if you don't.

stupidity revisited

i give up! thought i'd get some light entertainment after attending a green-party meeting and a peace vigil tonight by pulling up the daily show on my tivo.

the new york times bestseller list #1 (nonfiction/advice) is "natural cures they don't want you to know about" by kevin trudeau, a used car salesman who also did time for credit card fraud, etc. the daily show showed an informercial featuring him and tammy fay baker. he says his book can cure any disease, including aids, cancer, alzheimers, etc. this is the NUMBER ONE nonfiction/advice books that americans are buying!!! HOW FUCKING STUPID CAN YOU PEOPLE BE????? was there a mass-lobotomy i missed?

and then there was 'justice sunday ii'. a bunch of scary ass jesus freaks, including some of the most senior politicians in the republican party praying for jesus-humping judges. i am now convinced that christians are the most scary of all major religions. i have always believed that anybody who believes in some 'overseeing deity' is at the very best severely intellectually impaired and maybe borderline retarded, but i can forgive that, especially if it's some kind of more spirtual rather that traditional religious belief. there might still be hope. but these freaks in that 'justice sunday' mega-broadcast are way, way beyond help. whether they actually believe this religious bullshit or, as i suspect with many of them, are just using it for financial or power-gain, they are so off the stupidity meter that it's completely hopeless.

so what's there to do? you got the mind-boggingly stupid masses, being exploited by the pretty damn stupid few, whose stupidity is only outdone by their greed and mean-ness.

there are only two ways i can see now, maybe i will think of more later: 1) invest everything in education, to avoid bringing up the next generation just as stupid as the last. not just any eductation will do, as the countless masses of complete idiots with MBAs shows.
2) separation: break the country into two very un-equal part: the vast majority of stupid, jesus-, abraham-, mohamed-, or barney-worshipping masses. not giving a fuck about the planet, the rights of other people and nations or even each other. and a small place for the few people who haven't been hit over the head with the stupid-stick. and that wouldn't fall along the lines of the red and blue states, as most democrats are just about as dumb and ignorant as the republicans...

realistic? probably not.

there's my not so cheerful blog for the day.

FUCK YOU!

dennis rader aka the btk killer. one of the sickest fucks i have ever heard of. not quite sure he's really human, neither is he. i am against the death-penalty, but if anyone ever deserved it, it's this guy. he won't get it though

what the fuck is wrong with npr???

is it just me or is npr getting more and more right-wing? i know it's not that i'm getting more left wing - there is definitely something changing on npr. seems like all the guests now are from the heritage foundation, the hudson institute, etc. they are so fucking scared of being considered 'liberal' that they've completely swung the other way. now i'm just waiting for the 'the pat robertson hour' on npr or maybe rush is going to switch. pathetic!

their news hasn't been anything but an 'official mouth-piece' for the u.s. government for a long time, but now all the other shows are also turning into crap. on one of their science shows last week they had to give the disclaimer that scientists widely disagree about whether global warning is real or not. what the fuck? maybe next, they'll put a disclaimer on any story that references evolution, that maybe darwin was wrong and the christian god really created the universe.

there are still some decent shows on npr stations that didn't completely sell out yet, but of course in minnesota and wisconsin, they won't air those. too much controversy; and controversy is one of the lutheran/scandinavian/germanic northerner's greatest fears. hey, i mean who has time for intelligent discourse when there is so much gardening that has to be talked about. after all, our growing season is almost 5 weeks long up here!

i have to make one exception though and that is a local show here on our superior npr station, called the duke skorich show, which really is great. a while ago i wrote to both mpr and wpr and asked them to carry 'democracy now' (maybe the best news program out there, i.m.h.o.). while mpr just said they're trying to focus on locallly produced shows, wpr sent me this nasty letter back, saying they would never air that show, that it's too liberal and that they're trying to never be on any side of the issue, etc. give me a fucking break!

even their ads say how they always try to show both sides of the issue and invite their guest accordingly, etc. always both sides? do these numbnuts really think that every issue always has only two sides? they must live in a two dimensional world. talk about narrow-minded... but so many people seem to think that way. maybe most annoying are the people who think they are so independent and enlightened because they always assume that the truth must lie somewhere between what the republicans say and what the democrats say. i got news for you: our political system consists of 1 very right-wing party (democrats) and 1 ultra right-wing party (republicans). you might not be too successful looking for the truth between those two.

that reminds me of a great saying that's printed on the coffee cups of the chester creek cafe: "democracy must be something more than two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner" (maybe slightly mis-quoted). but it seems like the pursuit of objective truth is not on top of the list for most media outlets.

there's my sermon for the day! and now for the fun part:

FUCK YOU!

the 'reverent' jerry farwell. stupid, fat, bigot extraordinaire. said that the attacks on 9/11 were caused by "gays, lesbians, atheists, the ACLU, planned parenthood, americans for the separation of church and state and all non-christians". i'm a pretty pacifistic guy, but i'd really enjoy a half hour alone in a room with this asshole...

FUCK YEAH!

dan barker. president of the freedom from religion foundation. probably one of the smartest bunches of people i know. i'm always amazed by their 'freethought today' paper. doesn't care much for jerry farwell.

my enemy's enemy

time for some pseudo wisdoms that have been occupying my thoughts lately. one uncomfortable one is that my enemy's enemy isn't necessarily my friend. i come across that a lot as i think of candidates for my FUCK YEAH! section.

i had been thinking about fidel castro lately but i don't think i want to put him up. yes, i admire his revolutionary early years, i certainly admire how he is like a rock in this imperialistic world and 90 miles off the u.s. coast no less. i admire many of the great achievements in cuban society (that we never hear about in the u.s.) and how he stands up to all the lies spread about him (contrary to popular belief in the u.s., the majority of cubans actually DO like him). but on the other hand, i'm not sure i would want to be one of his subjects. so people can be a hero to you in one way, but not in another way. very grey; not black and white.

an easier example is saddam hussein. he is the sworn enemy of george bush and his corporate-military regime. do i think we were wrong to attack iraq? yes! would i rather see saddam still in power? yes! do i like to answer my own questions? yes! :)
but, that doesn't make him a friend of mine. the guy is a bona-fide asshole and a tyrrant. however in that part of the world that sometimes is the better choice. when all our murdering and pillaging is done over there, the government that finally emerges once the puppet-regime is gone, is going to make people wish for the days of saddam. so george bush is a murdering asshole and so is his enemy saddam.

is guess it's all a matter of degrees. take yassir arafat for example. i would still consider him a heroic figure, although in his final years he became much to stubborn and should have stepped aside. but sometimes the body of one's achievements can outrank early or eventual failings.

i was going to write about the difference between the middle ground between two opinions and actual truth but i think i'll postpone that until tomorrow.

finally, i'd like to ask you, my dear readers, for a favor. actually two favors.
#1: don't be shy about posting comments on my posts. i made it open for anyone, so you don't have to have a user name or anyhing.
#2: if you find my blog entertaining, let your friends know about it. i put a lot of work into it and it would be fun if someone actually read it.

the final business before the FYFY section today is a great definition for faith i stumbled across today. enjoy.

"Faith, n. Belief without evidence in what is told by one who speaks without knowledge, of things without parallel." -- Ambrose Bierce, The Devil's Dictionary (1911)

FUCK YOU!

condoleeza "evil-bitch" rice, who said: "We need a common enemy to unite us." how very orwellian of her...

FUCK YEAH!

urgent update

hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot!

it's mighty hot here. temperature in our appartment went up to 102 degrees today. el fuego! ay candela, candela... on a sad note, ibrahim ferrer died yesterday. one of the cult members of the buena vista social club. i'm such an ass. i had the chance to see them while they were all still alive but didn't. now more than half of them are dead.
at least i got to see miles davis before he died. i also had tickets to see astor piazolla when he called in sick for the gig. two weeks after that he was dead too. no luck. if i ever buy a ticket to your show, you better watch out. the grim reaper is near...

Chavez kicks out DEA, submariners safe, etc.

man it's HOT! up here. in the arctic northlands we're not used to mid 80s (and we don't have air-conditioners). hot, hot, hot. and did i mention it's hot?

in the news today: the russian submariners that were trapped at the bottom of the ocean with their oxygen running out have been rescued. phew! i felt terrible for them. being a pacifist , i usually don't feel too bad for volunteer soldiers dying on duty but nobody deserves to die like that. npr had reported that two american robotic rescue subs were being flown in, but that absolutely everything had to go perfect in order for those subs to get there in time. good thing they didn't have to rely on the americans, because when they were finally rescued, the americans hadn't even left port yet. a british rescue team that left after the americans did, cut the sub free. really happy for those guys. the russians were funny too: as a gesture of thanks, they didn't charge the americans and british for refueling their planes or fly-over fees. lol.

at the other end of the world, hugo chavez again showed off his brass cajones (and probably shortened the time until his eventual, unfortunate "accident") by kicking out the united states drug enforcement agency, or dea for short, because they were spying on his governement. oh no: i'm shocked! not the dea... and since chavez realized that this whole 'war on drugs' contains about the same amnount of bullshit as the 'war on terrorism', he told them to get the fuck out of venezuela. here are some of his comments.

"The DEA was using the fight against drug trafficking as a mask, to support drug trafficking, to carry out intelligence in Venezuela against the government," Mr Chavez said.

"Under those circumstances we have decided to make a clean break with those accord," he added.

President Chavez also criticised the US policy on drugs for concentrating on the supply rather than the demand of drugs.

finally, in other news, peter jennings dead at 67 shows you again that cancer doesn't give a fuck how rich or famous you are. bad way to go...
nasa is going to keep us on the edge of our seats by delaying the return of the shuttle by another day.
oh yeah, and oil hit a new all time high of $63.- a barrel. peak oil, here we come.

and now for

FUCK YOU!

ariel sharon. also known as the butcher of sabra and chatila. the fact that the majority of his party is even worse than him doesn't make him any better.

FUCK YEAH!

cindy sheehan. mother of a us soldier killed in iraq. is camped outside of george bush's ranch in texas waiting until he will see her so she can ask him "why he killed her son, and what his 'honorable cause' is."
